Holography is a powerful tool for understanding the fundamentals of nature. All the information content of a theory of quantum gravity in some volume is equivalent to a theory living at the boundary of the volume without gravity. The maths may be complex, but the term might be familiar, as in hologram. Indeed the idea that our whole world is a hologram was suggested by Leonard Susskind, a theoretical physicist.
