In late January 2025, temperatures in Beaumont, Texas plunged to levels not seen in nearly 120 years, according to the U.S. National Weather Service, as reported by credible outlets including the South China Morning Post and local news station KPRC. At Gator Country Adventure Park, outdoor ponds froze over solid, and videos shared by the park showed alligators underwater with only their snouts above ice to breathe.
