Winter illuminations in Japan and Okinawa are an incredible sight. During the season, local parks, gardens and theme parks stay open late thanks to elaborate displays of thousands of twinkling lights. Don’t miss the illuminations at Tounan Shokubutsu Rakuen, or Southeast Botanical Gardens, through May 26 on most evenings starting at 5 p.m. The garden lights are set up in various shapes and colors including Pokémon.
